Tim Walmsley
Director for Strategy and Business Development for an Aerospace Engineering firm
Tim Walmsley is an experienced Defence & Industry expert having worked in all stakeholder groups associated with Defence.
He served as a soldier in the Army for 13 years in the areas of Air Defence, Surveillance radars and was part of the team that introduced the first drones into the Army. He completed tours of Iraq and Afghanistan and moved into Defence Program Management after completing two Master’s degrees in Defence Capability Development and Acquisition, and Project Management. He retired from the Army as a Major in 2015 and moved into Defence Industry.
As the Director for Strategy and Business Development for an Aerospace Engineering firm, Tim experienced life as a Defence SME as he engaged with Defence from the outside. Frustrated with the issues of the stop/start nature of industry, employee underutilsation and the difficulty in engaging directly with large Defence Primes, Tim sold his house and started his own company BenchOn.
BenchOn is a tech platform that automatically matches Government and enterprise’s demand for talent, products and services, to the businesses that have the right capability and capacity to support. This allows all SMEs to access contracts that suit their specialities while ensuring that larger companies and Government agencies can access the hidden talent and capability from all of industry. Now supporting over 3000 defence companies and some of the biggest names in Defence, Local Government and more, BenchOn has solidified itself as a key enabler in the Defence space and beyond.
